VALE KARL BROADIE

So much has happened since the last post on Inside Songwriting, so some words of explanation are needed. Sadly our great friend and co-founder of this site, Karl Broadie, has lost his battle with cancer after a devastatingly brief time. In the aftermath of his sudden death in April many of his family and friends have been dealing with the practicalities of sorting out his estate and then turning our minds to his legacy. As part of that effort we’ve finally unlocked the secret to get access to the admin of Inside Songwriting, where Karl did all the back end work and I merely sent him content. Now I have to take a crash course in Word Press and endeavour to continue to meet the high standard Karl set in ensuring this site is a vibrant and valuable part of his legacy.

Many words have flowed about the sense of shock Karl’s loss has engendered in the tight community he fostered, and several projects are underway to continue his work posthumously. I’ll post the link to the obituary I wrote on Support Act to give a sense of what happened and will be posting and updating Inside Songwriting as I learn the ropes.

Goodbye Karl, you were a gem, a great friend, a brother and a bloody fine songwriter, sorely missed. Sail on starsailor.
